Thanks in part to the dividend I get from all of the money I spend at REI anyway, I purchased a hammock. This was due, in part, to my desire to go on more overnight hikes, bike rides and general camping, but has mostly resulted in my randomly hanging my hammock around the farm and frightening passers by like some sort of giant vampire bat. In this respect the hammock has already paid for itself despite costing me some valued friendships in the process.
Anyway, as you may or may not know I am obsessed with coffee shops and cafés. I seek them out because when I need to work at home I basically accomplish nothing other cleaning my room. It doesn't matter how awesome and/or spotless my room is, I cannot seem to work sitting at a desk, where I live. All I ever do is look around and think, "I should clean this place." then I spend all the time I should be working, cleaning my room. Conversely, or ironically...probably both, when I need to clean my room I can find any number of other activities that do not remotely involve cleaning.

I have almost dropped the computer into the lake on more than one occasion. |
So, when I have work to do I used to drive to a coffee shop, order an iced coffee sit at a table and work/look at cats on the Internet. My newest obsession is to hang my hammock in various places around the farm and get on my laptop so I can get some work or writing or something productive done. This way I get to be out in nature, with a great view, and if I start to get distracted by nature or people, I can just pack up and hang out somewhere else. Bonus, if I can hang the hammock near unsecured wireless networks guess who can now get that much more work done...or look at that many more cat pictures.

Braving the elements with my laptop and wifi...truly an inspiration |
Incidentally, I have also noticed that I spend a great deal of my time in the hammock staring at my own feet...so there's that.
